The fierce rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens has taken to the postseason on three previous occasions. All three matchups took place in Pittsburgh, and all ended with a Steelers victory. Baltimore will again head to Heinz Field for a postseason tilt tonight, looking to author a new chapter in the storied matchup. You can watch the game live on CTV at 8pm et/5pm pt. Its a great challenge, coach John Harbaugh said Monday. Its another playoff game there. Wed like to win one, one of these days. Baltimore previously lost playoff meetings with the Steelers in 2002, 2009 and 2011. The Ravens did not control their own destiny heading into the final week of the regular season, but took care of business with a 20-10 victory over Cleveland and benefited from San Diegos loss to Kansas City. The combination secured Baltimores sixth postseason berth in seven seasons and first since its Super Bowl title following the 2012 season. Any sort of title run this year will have to happen away from Baltimore, which will be on the road throughout the AFC playoffs as the sixth seed. All youve got to do is win all your games, Terrell Suggs said. If you ask me, I think were a (heck) of a team on the road. Sometimes, thats the way youve got to go. But everythings 0-0, all things are new, and weve gotten to the second season. The numbers dont exactly match Suggs sentiment. Including last season, the Ravens are 6-10 away from Baltimore and have not posted a winning record on the road since 2010. They were routed by the Steelers 43-23 in their last visit to Heinz Field on Nov. 2, allowing Ben Roethlisberger to throw for a career high-tying six touchdowns. Pittsburgh has enjoyed such performances from Roethlisberger all season. The 11th-year quarterback posted career highs with 32 touchdown passes, a 67.1 completion percentage, and 309.5 passing yards per game. Given his postseason pedigree, theres no indication the production should slow down Saturday. I think were continuing to improve every week, guys are stepping up and making plays, Roethlisberger, who owns a 10-4 playoff record and two Super Bowl titles, said to Pittsburghs official site. Were getting more contributions from a little bit of everybody. Yet, a key piece - LeVeon Bell - will be absent on Sunday. Bell amassed 11 touchdowns and 2,215 yards from scrimmage, contributing to Pittsburghs franchise-record 6,749 total yards this season, but he suffered a hyperextended knee in Pittsburghs AFC North-clinching 27-17 victory over Cincinnati in Week 17. He was ruled out for the game Friday after missing a third straight practice. In losing Bell, who leads the league with 841 yards after catch, the Steelers would also lose their big-play threat from the backfield, leaving more responsibility in the passing game. Antonio Brown has proven he is up to that task, leading the NFL in receptions (129) and receiving yards (1,698). He should provide a daunting challenge for Baltimores 23rd-ranked pass defense. Antonio Brown is gifted, Harbaugh said to Baltimores official site. He runs all the routes; hes not just a deep threat, hes a route runner; reverses; as a punt returner, as we saw in the Cincinnati game last week. Hes a multi-dimensional guy that can score at any point in time. Brown posted an 11-catch, 144-yard performance against Baltimore in the most recent meeting, highlighted by a 54-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. It was an aerial display the Ravens have not yet forgotten. A couple mistakes here, a couple blown coverages, cornerback Rashaan Melvin said. You try not to make the same mistakes twice. … These last couple games, weve been playing good ball all over the field. That confidence going into the playoffs is going to help a lot. That defensive unit will receive a boost with the return of tackle Haloti Ngata, who completed a four-game suspension for violations of the leagues performance-enhancing substances policy. Ngata has two sacks and two interceptions in 12 games. Joe Flacco may also be entering Saturdays matchup with some momentum after passing for 312 yards and two touchdowns against Cleveland, marking his first 300-yard performance since Week 9. Despite his modest numbers of late, Flacco still finished the year with a career high in yardage (3,986) with ten fewer interceptions than he threw in 2013. Anything can happen once you get into the playoffs, but I dont necessarily want to approach it with us, Flacco said. Im not going to be surprised if, three weeks from now, were sitting here and still playing. With the exception of their most recent matchup, the Ravens and Steelers traditionally engage in low-scoring affairs, especially in Pittsburgh. Since 2008, Baltimore has averaged 18.4 points over its last seven games at Heinz Field, and has held Pittsburgh to 20.4 points in those contests. When youre able to come back to contest a shot. . . Its going to help a lot. The 22-year-old Lithuanian went twice this past summer to Oregon a€” a hotbed for U.S. track and field for decades a€” to train with Radcliffe. The 56-year-old, whose lean physique could belong to a man three decades younger, is in his 29th year as strength and conditioning coach for the Oregon Ducks. Hes considered one of the foremost experts on sprint training in the U.S. and works with all of the Ducks teams to improve things like strength, speed, agility, and explosiveness.High knees, form, technique, how to run, how to use less energy, Valanciunas said of his training sessions. How to turn with less steps, he adds, and does an impromptu demonstration of a turn. It almost looks nimble.Among his innovative methods, Radcliffe studied Valanciunass foot strike by having him run barefoot on pieces of paper. The paper shooting out backwards translates to too much back kick and not enough driving of the knees; shooting forwards means over-reaching. Raptors coach Dwane Casey, who spent a couple days observing Radcliffes methods, said Valanciunas remains a work in progress, and wont be lacing on the track spikes any time soon.Hes running better, hes getting there, I dont think he looks like Usain Bolt yet, but hes doing better, Casey said. I think more than anything else hes more conscious of it now, hes lighter on his feet. . . more efficient.A lot of times you can expend so much energy by using too much of your arms and kind of flailing all over the place, and not going anywhere. . . so that was one of the main things, run lighter, more efficient, keep your arms tighter to the body, head more erect than (bent) over.Altering his running style hasnt been easy, and Valanciunas said he still catchees himself reverting to old habits.ddddddddddddIts not going to change it over the summer, he said. Ive got to do that years and years.Jeff Weltman, the Raptors vice-president of operations, was largely responsible for sending Valanciunas to Oregon, and said the team is always up for new training techniques. The way (Radcliffe) was talking, saying The way I want to introduce his feet to the floor and all this, its new lingo for us, Weltman said. Thats part of summers, keeping it fresh and making sure its not the same thing over and over, getting introduced to new ideas and bringing them back here.Weltman said he could see a difference in Valanciunas at the FIBA World Cup, where he led the tournament in field goal percentage and was a standout for Lithuania.I think his balance is better, I think hes running better and his conditioning, Weltman said. He sees the way that he needs to train in a different light now. Three days into training camp at Fortius Sport & Health in Burnaby, his teammates have noticed improvement in Valanciunas, and not simply in his running.Hes grown a lot as a man, and with him playing for his country this past summer, he did extremely well and I think thats going to carry over to our team, and hes been showing it in these practices, said DeMar DeRozan, who helped the United States to World Cup gold.(DeRozan laughingly admitted to trash-talking Valanciunas when the U.S. played Lithuania in Spain. It was all fun and games, he said.)Chuck Hayes, who guards Valanciunas in practice, said hes more aggressive than last season.Hes always working on the offensive glass, which is what you need, and hes demanding the ball a lot, Hayes said. We dont always give it to him in practice; in practice Im guarding him all the time and hes always demanding the ball. Over the course of the season thats going to come into big play for us.Asked if hes seen a speedier Valanciunas, Hayes laughed and said Its getting there. When he runs, he kind of dips his head when he gets going. But hes moving, hes moving. The Raptors will train at Fortius, the training headquarters of Canadas womens soccer team among other teams, through Saturday. Theyll host the Sacramento Kings in their pre-season opener at Rogers Arena on Sunday. ' ' '
